Inside a Sample Kit
Each month, we create an entirely new kit based on its own unique theme. Below is a preview of our “Walk the Dinosaur” kit which was sent to club members in June 2020. A limited supply of overstock for this kit is available in our store.
The Walk the Dinosaur kit is roaring with fun dinosaur facts, trivia, and games. Get kids excited about eating like the herbivores with a colorful, creamy slaw and veggie-packed muffins. Next, let them dig through their dessert cups while you dig with them, right into the paleontology process, math and measuring skills, and the latest details on the most recent food allergy research.
Bonus tips include a speed method for ripening bananas and video tutorials on measuring fats and spices.

Activity Packet
Each packet includes activities geared toward three different age groups (little kids, big kids, and tweens/teens). These activities are designed to review concepts taught in the tutorial booklet as well as introduce new educational components related to the month’s theme. Curiosity teasers on the front of each packet encourage kids to explore the month’s theme even deeper, diving into history, social studies, science, math, reading, art, music, and more. When the kids scan the code to access the answer key, they’ll find additional information and links to even more educational resources.

ChefSmarts Guide
Each ChefSmarts Guide teaches a specific cooking or related skill. So far, we’ve taught about knife and stove-top safety, gardening & selecting produce, label reading, how to follow a recipe, measuring, and more. The measuring basics tutorial below is designed to introduce measuring concepts. Tutorials that dig in deeper to different types of measuring are coming soon, along with recipe manipulation techniques, food handling, grocery shopping, and other important kitchen skill tutorials.

Recipes
Each kit comes with three photo-assisted recipes that complement the kit’s theme. One recipe will be a fun dessert or treat, while the other recipes may be a main dish, side, snack, appetizer, or drink. While all recipes are designed to accommodate diets that are free from top allergens, animal products, and gluten, they’re also designed to look and feel “normal” for people who aren’t following special diets. All of our recipes are tested with both gluten-free and gluten-containing flours and a variety of plant-based or cow’s milks can be utilized when a recipe calls for milk. Egg substitutes are usually created using ingredients commonly found in your pantry. We often use the extra space on the back of our recipe cards to further encourage educational study based on the kit’s theme, teach additional cooking concepts or highlight food bloggers that fit in well with the Chef Free community. Recipes always link to virtual shopping lists where we recommend specific brands for those following special diets (i.e. plant-based, soy-free, & nut-free).
